Online Spanish Classes

I received our lessons free of charge and compensation for writing a fair and honest review.

At the beginning of each “school year” I sit down with my son and we make a big list of all the things he wants to learn. I always get a surprise or two, but imagine my shock when my soon-to-be first grader started rattling off a dozen foreign languages!

Don’t get me wrong – I love that he is interested in learning a new language (or 12). There are so many benefits to learning a new language early in life, from improving English skills to increased cultural awareness. But there is one problem: I don’t speak any other languages!

Ideas for first grade homeschool curriculum

It is one of the top criticisms of homeschooling:
“What makes you qualified to teach?”

Okay, let’s be real. I am NOT qualified to teach a foreign language. I struggled to even learn a foreign language! After 4 years of Spanish in high school, my classmates called what I spoke “Ashpañol” (Ashley + Español) because I never quite got the hang of speaking Spanish. I knew lists of words, but I couldn’t quite make sentences.

This made planning my kiddo’s first grade curriculum particularly challenging. If he wants to speak Spanish (and Mandarin, and Chinese, and, and, and…) I need to outsource!

Foreign Language Learning for Kids
with PandaTree.com

I was thrilled to be able to try PandaTree.com, and I’m even more excited to share a FREE 25 minute trial lesson in Spanish or Mandarin with you! Read on for details and your coupon code.

LIVE Foreign Language Lessons

PandaTree.com offers live, one-on-one foreign language leessons for kids in Mandarin and Spanish. Each lesson is led by a  qualified, professional tutor. I love that we could choose our schedule AND our tutor.

In our first session our tutor, Dimaris, was friendly and encouraging. She used the notes I sent about my son’s interests to connect with him. They talked about his family (la familia) and learned the names of some of his favorite animals (perro, gato, and conejo). My son was still a little nervous – talking to a stranger online was a new experience!

It was so helpful to see a familiar face for the second session. Dimaris remembered him, engaged him with a review of what he’d learned, and played a few games! He was much more relaxed and ready to learn.  Just look at this toothless grin!

Online foreign language tutoring with PandaTree.com

PandaTree.com is more than just flashcard vocabulary with little bells and buzzers. It’s truly interactive, and Dimaris was great at adapting to what my son needed – he is a wiggly 6 year old, after all! During the sessions, they played games, named pictures, and practiced conversational Spanish. Live tutoring is much more engaging than other apps and games online.
