Moving Beyond the Page: All-in-One Homeschool Curriculum
Here are some of the basic details about Moving Beyond the Page:
Grades / Levels: MBTB spans age four through high school levels. The elementary and middle school programs span three years, allowing for flexibility based on your child’s ability. We’re doing the program for Age 9-11 (without math).
Style: The focus is on literature and project-based unit study. Each level has several unit studies that come with corresponding books, activities, and work.
Developed For: MBTP was designed for gifted or advanced students, but it can be used with any child. It’s best not to go by the age levels alone. Instead, use the company’s free placement test to choose the best program for your child and move at your own pace.
This program is highly customizable! You can choose between a printed curriculum or an ebook. You also have the option of buying a full package or selecting individual units. For info about making Moving Beyond the Page more affordable see this post: Moving Beyond the Page +Making it AFFORDABLE
Teaching with Moving Beyond the Page
Moving Beyond the Page is truly an all-in-one homeschool curriculum. It incorporates all subjects by bringing literature, writing, grammar, history, geography, science, and the arts together for interesting, integrated units.
MBTP is easy to teach with an open-and-go approach. There’s no prep involved for me. The teacher’s manual, worksheets, and assignments are all included in each unit’s booklet. I just open to the next page, and we are off and learning!

What Makes This All-In-One Homeschool Curriculum Stand Out?
I would describe Moving Beyond the Page as a rich and thorough all-in-one homeschool curriculum, and there’s quite a lot that makes it stand out from the pack.
Engaging Literature
MBTP uses quality literature from some of the best children’s authors. The units cover a wide variety of genres, including contemporary and classic fiction, poetry, folk tales, biographies, and science fiction. Not only did these books get my son excited to read, but they were also enjoyable for me to read along, which in turn helped me to enrich his reading experience.

Incorporation of Diversity
I appreciate that Moving Beyond the Page seamlessly incorporates diversity. For example, one unit covers American history through folk tales and shares stories from all over the US. We dug into Native American history, black history, and women’s history, which created a rich history without ever dumbing things down. Their literature choices are also not afraid to meet issues like racism and prejudice head on with books like The Cay.
A Robust, All in One Homeschool Curriculum
We found this curriculum is a lot – in a good way. There’s a lot of content in each unit, and the curriculum really encouraged us to dig into a variety of subjects. I found it easy to make connections to real life and current events which led to deeper understanding.
For example, we were studying poetry during the inauguration and listened to Amanda Gorman’s poem. This led us to listen to all kinds of poetry and looking at presidential history as we were learning about structure and well-known poems through the curriculum. This all led nicely to the Abraham Lincoln biography and unit study, which we picked next. The ability to choose the order of the units led to a natural sort of continuity.

Who I’d Recommend Moving Beyond the Page To
I would recommend Moving Beyond the Page to parents looking for an all-in-one homeschool curriculum to use with kids who enjoy literature-based learning – whether that’s reading or being read to – regardless of if your kid is gifted or not.
Since MBTP is designed specifically for gifted students, I can see how the pacing in the guide may seem fast. But in my opinion, you can slow this down to match your child’s pace. One year of the curriculum will probably last my son a year and a half. This is great for us because he’s really enjoying it and it’ll save us some money in the long run.
With placement testing, you should be able to find a good fit to meet your child at their level. If you’re not sure, take the placement test and then pick out one unit that looks interesting to you. You and your kids can get a feel for the style and see if you like it.
